Mirko Farina, Professor of IDEAS and Director of Human-Machine Interaction Laboratory, went on a research trip to Russia between September 30 and October 13 2024. During his trip, he visited many places, including Kazan, Saint Petersburg and Moscow, conducted in-depth communication with university students on the topic of artificial intelligence and discussed opportunities for future collaboration with experts and scholars. He was also interviewed by many Russian media.
On the afternoon of October 2, Mirko first visited the city of Kazan in the Republic of Tatarstan and then delivered a keynote speech on “Artificial Intelligence in the BRICS countries: Ways of Cooperation” at Innopolis Digital Day 2024, an international conference on AI held at Innopolis University.
On October 7, Mirko went to visit Nizhny Novgorod, specifically NEIMARK IT, a new university focused on IT being established in the Volga Region by the Minister of Education of the Russian Federation. Mirko gave an invited talk on the ethical and societal implications surrounding the application of generative AI tools in society. He was subsequently interviewed by TV Volga, a regional TV of the Russian Federation. His talk had wide coverage in the Volga region with several journalistic outlets covering it.
Mirko then moved to the city of Saint Petersburg, in the North of Russia, where he visited Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University (ETU LETI), one of the leading polytechnics in Russia. Mirko gave an invited talk on the significance and potential future impact of 6G technologies in society. As part of the visit, Mirko met with the Vice Rector for Science of ETU LETI, Prof Anastasia Minina. The two discussed opportunities and possibilities for future collaboration.
At the end of his trip, Mirko moved to the capital city of Russia, Moscow, where he was invited to give a lecture at the leading AI Institute of Lomonosov University, the best university in the country and one of the best in AI research in the whole world. He will be returning to Russia for another series of talks and research visits at the beginning of November.
