International Research Trip of IDEAS Expert

Mirko Farina, Professor of IDEAS and Director of Human-Machine Interaction Laboratory, went on an international research trip between October 26 and November 7.
During the trip, A keynote speech was delivered by Mirko on “Artificial Intelligence, Netcentric Warfare, and the Risk of Nuclear Armaggedon” at a conference on the role of AI for Global Peace organized, on behalf of the President of Russia’s Administration, by the Baltic Platform in Velikiy Novgorod. Later, he visited Moscow, holding meetings with various colleagues of Moscow State University and of MGIMO to discuss further opportunities for collaboration, and delivering a talk titled “The Future of Digital International Relations on AI in Diplomacy” in a sub-forum of the “Inventing the Future” Symposium.
IDEAS is currently accelerating our presence in the international academic community. Our collaboration with Springer has resulted in the “SN Social Science” and “SN Business and Economics” journals, both permanent series that include our research. Our upcoming journal, “AI & Innovation,” for example, will serve as a critical platform for disseminating groundbreaking research and fostering global intellectual exchange. Mirko will serve as editor in chief of the journal.
In the following, more IDEAS Experts will participate in more international academic exchanges on behalf of IDEAS, which will promote communication and cooperation in the digital economy among BRICS countries.

On March 20, Institute for Digital Economy and Artificial Systems (IDEAS-BRICS), Global South Academic Forum (GSAF), and Global South Insights (GSI) jointly hosted the first session of the “Sovereign AI and Digital Sovereignty” seminar series. It focused on the core issue of how countries in the Global South can build and defend their digital sovereignty against the backdrop of current geopolitical dynamics and technological monopolies.

In response to the call for papers for the theme collection of “Sovereign Artificial Intelligence and Digital Sovereignty” under the journal AI and Innovation, and to ensure the academic depth and regional breadth of the final published content, Institute for Digital Economy and Artificial Systems (IDEAS-BRICS), Global South Academic Forum (GSAF), and Global South Insights (GSI) have jointly decided to launch a four-month series of offline and online seminars as the core supporting component for this theme collection. The first session will focus on Asia.
